PAST PROJECTS

 Girls' Primary 

 

CHECK has worked with the Lady of Lourds School to provide funds, materials and help in physical labour to construct a kitchen, a well, toilets (17 toilets not enough for 1000 girls!), classrooms and has provided funds for uniforms, books, teaching materials, medical equipment sports' equipment and kit and classroom renovation over the years.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We currently support 20 girls at the school each year by paying their fees and we pay for the salaries of two teachers annually. We have bought cows to provide the girls with milk when they arrive at school in the morning.

 Boys' Secondary 

 

CHECK has been involved with this St Luke's Boys' High School since 1984 when an Exchange Project took place between their school and de Stafford School in Caterham and involvement with many Primary Schools in Caterham. Since then many exciting achievements have occurred. They include the construction of an Admin. Block, Science labs, a dormitory, a kitchen, a library, staff houses, a well, a piggery, a bakery. A new generator, classroom teaching and learning aids, a Medical Room, have also been jointly provided.

 

Much sports' equipment and kit have been donated. (Sport is a high priority at this school and the handball team has been the Kenyan National Champions in recent years and they have won the East African Championship).

CHECK has worked in conjunction with St Joseph's School to renovate and decorate classrooms, build toilet blocks, provide sports' kits, uniforms, educational material and CHECK pays the salary for one teacher and 20 students each year. The school won an Award for the decoration and educational value of the information on the walls

1000 Science Text Books have recently been delivered to the school. This school is now a very popular and highest achieving school in the county.

 

 Girls' Secondary 

 

St Theresa's Girls' Secondary School.  CHECK have been supporting this school also since 1985 and past projects include the construction of two Science labs, a water collecting scheme, a new ablution block, a cow shed, and a staff house to enable it to become a Boarding School. Computers, 1000 Science Text Books, school uniforms, teaching aids and cows have been purchased or donated. 

 Adult Education 

 

This is our most recent successful story as over a 3-year period, this institution which CHECK helped to resurrect has come from a poorly resourced and housed establishment to a flourishing school with 120 Adult students.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The local and national politicians recognised the upsurge in the standard has now joined with CHECK to construct a 4 classroom building on the site of a local Primary School. Exam results have vastly improved. We pay the salaries for 5 of the teachers here and we have also provided 1000 science Text books recently.

 Kimilili District Hospital 

 

Medical supplies and equipment, wheelchairs, blankets, blood testing kit, Ultra sound machine, babies woollen clothing have been supplied thanks to support from the Wheelchair Foundation, Caterham Rotary Club, Caterham Dene Hospital, supporters in churches and clubs from Caterham and South Wales. The Children's ward and the Female ward have been decorated in recent years and new beds and lockers have been provided.
